藝術家簡介

CHENG Cheuk Wang

鄭卓泓

Cody Cheng, born in Hong Kong in 2002, is an illustrator and comics artist. Illustration works primarily revolve around a blend of realistic storytelling infused with a touch of conceptual elements to present narrative.

In addition, he also engage in comic creation that caters to a more traditional and mainstream audience. The expression within the works is conveyed through the power of narrative/storytelling and the incorporation of abstract concepts.

Through his works, he provides a space for contemplation to the audience, allowing them to reflect on their current circumstances. Additionally, he creates gaps that enable the audience to overlap themselves with the characters in the story.

Synthetic Porn - behind the scenes

Ink on paper

In today’s prevalent use of deepfake technology on the internet, it is most commonly associated with pornography. This artwork visualises the process of deepfakes, not the kind that detects and adjusts facial muscles, nor the data algorithms, but rather the personification of AI’s existence and the process of creating synthetic deepfakes.

Will AI threaten humanity? My response is that AI itself is just a tool, and its behaviour and impact are determined by how humans design and use it.

Immortality

Ink (ball pen) on paper

It is about the journey of self-discovery and finding meaning in life. I confront the negative aspects of the past and embark on a quest to uncover the true purpose of my existence through the medium of comic art. In this transformative process, the act of creation becomes akin to eternal life, where the flowing essence is no longer blood but the ink and strokes. This poignant and introspective work explores themes of personal growth, redemption, and the power of artistic expression.

Witnessing Aging

2020-2021

Pencil on paper

364mm x 257mm, 5 pieces of work

Between 2020 and 2021, within six months, both my grandfathers passed away, witnessing their rapid aging process. There is a profound impact, and I decided to document these traces on paper with a pencil and canvas as visual images.
