Chau Tsz Ching
Chau Tsz Ching (b. 2002, Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong artist who uses oil painting as her main medium to create figurative and surreal works through the study of philosophy and literature. Her works are from her internal observation of her own subconscious mind and her surroundings. Being less sensitive to the outside world because of her mild hearing loss made her more attuned to the external environment. At the same time, inspired by the communication between human beings and other species, she reflects on the relationship between different species and the environment. Hence, she uses paintings to interpret the things she observes to reflect on and give voice to the groups that are not able to voice for themselves. Painting from her own inner imagination to find out how she feels in this accelerated city, she puts her thoughts and feelings into her works to communicate emotionally with the audience.

This series records the things that impressed me deeply, and the story of this painting happened a few years ago. It is a middle-aged man who accidentally paid an extra Hong Kong dollar when he took a minibus. Or because of financial constraints, he argued with the driver all the way and tried to get the driver to return one dollar. I can’t forget his obsession with one Hong Kong dollar. I couldn’t help thinking when I was still young what exactly is being overlooked.
The series is to be continued. The name is taken from the name of the fictional city in the Hong Kong test paper, or another name for Hong Kong, Heung Shing.
