In the digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) has profoundly influenced our self-perception and identity construction.  "Perfect Reformation aims to explore how technology changes our understanding of our "true self" and reveals whether we are losing our individual uniqueness and autonomy in the pursuit of a perfect image.

By submitting my personal ID photos to AI for reconstruction multiple times, I observed that the generated images were significantly different from the original photos each time. These images reflect how AI reshapes the human face based on society's aesthetic standards, blurring the line between real and fake. Even more challenging is, is this "perfect" image actually more valuable than your true self?

My work is centered around holographic projections and multi-layered digital images, gradually deforming and reconstructing AI-generated faces to present the fluidity and instability of identity. Combined with immersive sound design, the audience will be brought into a space where technology and humanity are intertwined to feel the tension between virtuality and reality.

The name “Wu Lian” is the source of my creative inspiration and artistic theme, symbolizing a person’s understanding and awakening deep in his heart, thereby walking out of the difficulties and obstacles in life and maintaining inner purity and tranquility. As a flower with tenacious vitality, the lotus can still show its noble and untainted qualities even when growing in a muddy pond. This spirit and willpower are worth learning from and drawing lessons from. My work aims to convey this inner peace and tranquility through installation, guiding the audience to free themselves from external temptations and interference, and to understand and explore the true nature of their own hearts. At the same time, I also hope to convey a deep humanistic care and the power of life through my creations, and inspire people to maintain a positive attitude and quality in their daily lives.

Left Something Behind

1 channel video with sound , 2024, Size variable

“Left Something Behind” This short video tells the story of someone burdened by the weight of life, feeling only sadness and loneliness as they reminisce about the past. Flipping through old photographs, they see a version of themselves who once loved life passionately. In their dreams, they forget all their troubles and truly become themselves again, recalling moments spent with loved ones under the sunshine. However, upon waking up, they realize the painful return to reality. The purpose of filming this story is to address the common experience of being unable to let go of certain people or events. Through cinematography, editing techniques, lighting, and color grading, I aimed to depict the character’s emotions, juxtaposing the feeling of loss in reality with the happiness of dreams. Moreover, I hope to provoke reflection among viewers on unresolved memories and trauma.

How many peaceful days, we lingered on the park playground after class, looked up at the sky, and slid down the hot slide… The park playground is full of our childhood memories. Childhood is the purest and most beautiful time in life. Simple gadgets and games cab already bring profound experiences and unforgettable memories, The purpose of this series of photos is to remind people of those carefree student days through my memories of childhood photos. I always wanted to grow up quickly when I was a student, after I grew up, I realized that youth is irreplaceable even if you have money.
