ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Cheung Wan Yan, Grace, is an artist from Hong Kong who primarily works with painting and ceramics. Her practice explores themes of feminism, memory, and emotional expression. Through painting, she uses bold contrasts in color to reflect the complexity of emotions and her ongoing search for self-identity. In her ceramics, she embraces the natural characteristics of materials, favoring subtle and earthy tones that highlight the tactile essence of clay. By creating dialogues between different materials, Grace captures the fragility and strength of emotional experience.

These ceramic pieces of marine organisms which resemble the vagina represents the different kinds of femininity, similar to the nature's variety. This artwork questions the society's usage of vagina-shaped marine organisms as slurs, challenging the objectification of female and the beauty standards of the world we live in.
