ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
藝術家簡介
Daphane Ng is from Hong Kong. She is interested in exploring everyday scenes rendered in oil with gentle brushwork. The use of low saturation tones creates a frozen atmosphere. This evokes a deep sense of nostalgia and contemplation. Each piece captures a moment suspended in time.

My work focuses on the everyday scene of urban landscape, evoking a collective anxiety through low-saturation tones and soft brushstrokes. The two works in this series were sourced from my personal life and memory. I attempt to create the ambiguous "gap" of a childhood morning, the sky just before dawn, thus creating a fleeting, nostalgic space that does not exist in reality.
In the light of the Tree, a warm landscape scene is transformed into an uncanny memory by the rumour of a human sacrifice ritual called "plug the bean hole"; while the Building painting focuses on modern architecture, the natural curves of the bamboo shed and the soft protective netting knit a twisted cage. In this rapidly changing city, even skyscrapers may not leave a trace in memory.
I hope to freeze this ordinary, unremarkable memory through oil painting, inviting viewers to step into this non-existent, unknown space and time.

A children's playground inspired this work; looking at these trees always brought back good memories. However, she later learned that the remains of seven children are buried there. Rumour has it that a human sacrifice ritual called “plug the bean hole” existed in Hong Kong’s architectural circles. Although these trees meant no harm in life, this image has transformed from beautiful to terrifying.
A daily scene becomes a site of functional creepiness; its visual mediocrity is deliberately emphasised. Through realism, the work projects horror and what is truly disturbing.
