Language is a system of symbols. The artist uses ancient scripts, like oracle bone script, to visually represent three foreign classic fables, inviting viewers to guess and reflect on the fables. It allows people who do not understand Chinese characters to participate. The series of works inspired by Xuzi's classic Chinese article “Exhortation to Learning.”, specifically the concept that "learning is a never-ending process." Through these three fables, the artworks parallel three key learning principles: making good use of resources, accumulation, and focus. They express different aspects of learning. The work aims to help viewers understand oracle bone script as a learning method and to convey universal life lessons through storytelling, inspiring continued curiosity and growth.

Illusory

2025

Ink on paper

138 x 69 cm

Love is unpredictable and uncontrollable, just as ink splashing is. No one can trully know the result before the end. It is dreamy and illusory but also a little broken, which is a shattered illusion of love.

Fleeting Memories

2025

Porcelain

125 x 48 x 36 cm

This ceramic newspaper piece is made from a week’s worth of free newspapers collected at the MTR station. After being fired at high temperature, it becomes an unopenable shape, symbolising the fading and blurring of information. The blurred words metaphorically represent how our memories of the past gradually fade, reflecting the rapid pace of information updates and our tendency to forget the content. The work reminds us that information cannot be preserved for long, and memories are as fragile as ceramics — easily lost and difficult to recover.

Cursive Script Li Xianglan

2025

Ink on paper

70 x 80 cm

This artwork integrates the Cursive Script of Wang Duo's straight and curved lines, square and round lines. There is straightness in the curve while hardness is in the softness. The flexible lines are as soft as women, which also brings out the unfairness and helplessness of the world.

The artwork refers to the extraordinary techniques of the ancients. At the same time, it adds the well-known old song "Li Xianglan" by Jacky Cheung, leading the public to the memory of a legendary superstar.
