ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
藝術家簡介
Fan Yee Yan, artist based in Hong Kong. Graduated from HKDI Illustration and HKBU Visual arts. Mainly working with illustration and painting as habits for several years, hand drawings to digital drawings. Also interested in craftsmanship such as woodwork and ceramic. Like making doodles and randomly making things but also starting with boring ideas at the same time enjoy it, give lots of passion and time into it. Media would not stop me from doodling or drawing on it, like trying to mix different media and showing my own style and sense. Full of crazy and weird ideas inside the brain that I would like to try at any time.

I explore the nature of beauty as an individual experience that invokes feelings of peace, happiness, and healing. Each piece I create is my impulsive response to clay, driven by need to generate forms that are significant to my inner self.I value spontaneity, letting my mind dictate the process with little planning or drafts.
The word “Kalos” (καλός) is taken from an ancient Greek word that refers to beauty, virtue, and excellence. Because I am finding my own sense and style. And the word and my word remind me that the process is boundless, vague, and ethereal, because there are still people nowadays searching, quoting, or are directed by the past.
When I create, I feel joyful and passionate. This is not just a process of making for me but a necessary ritual—a life force that makes me come alive. This process, which is intuitive, Kalos becomes a symbol, taking the clay and shaping it into something that feels right, though it’s hard to explain.
