Fung Yuen Ki (Katie)
The works of Fung Yuen Ki (Katie) revolve around self-exploration, using her artworks to articulate her thoughts.
As an introvert, Katie struggles with communication and expression, yet through observing herself and the happenings around her, she scripted numerous dramas within her mind to have conversations with herself. Art became her shelter, a language beyond words, where she could manifest her ideas into creations.

In Snow White, the evil queen always looks into her mirror and asks who is the fairest of them all. Through the reflection of the mirror, she confirms that she is still the fairest. And what do you and I want to confirm through the mirror?

Growing up in a family that values practicality very much, I’ve been told that everything in cartoons is fake, and this makes me only believe in the facts. This kind of thought became my obstacle as an artist. I think changing this habit should start with reclaiming the fantasy I used to have. Using vibrant colours and fantastical imagery, I hope to create a Neverland for me to rebuild the childhood I want and escape from the facts. Each piece in the works is a reflection of my journey towards rediscovering the wonder of childhood fantasy.
