藝術家簡介

Ip Siu Yu
葉少榆

Moss Ip Siu Yu was born in Hong Kong in 2001. By the time of this graduation show, Moss Ip have moved apartments for 15 times, and have lived in a vast array of homes, ranging from luxury estates to subdivided flats. Affected by the instability of constant relocations, Moss Ip searches for a sense of unchangingness, and found comfort in non-organic material such as metal, concrete and glass. Moss Ip has a leisurely interest in metaphysics, and objects of the past. What that is made by Moss Ip delves into a fragmented memory and a broken attempt to solve a puzzle with missing pieces. By holding onto their vulnerabilities, Moss Ip tries to create something.

Metal Tanker Desk: A Case of Furniture Restoration

鋼檯:家具復修個案研究

Ready-made Metal Tanker Desk, Digital Print on Paper

現成鋼檯, 數碼印刷紙本

78 x 92 x 50 cm, 14.8 x 21cm

In the modern era of overproduction and overconsumption, the act of restoration is rarely heard of, and often limited to the field of experts and specialists within institutions.

Metal Tanker Desk: A Case of Furniture Restoration is a practice-based research project that studies the object history of a vintage metal tanker desk bought from Carousell, a second hand marketplace app. By looking into the past of this salvaged piece of furniture, this project shines a light on the unique history of furniture in Hong Kong. It also presents itself as a rebuttal against throwaway furniture culture, and as a counter for the art of care, repair and maintenance.

husk

Sets of six illustrations dipped in scented baby oil, packaged in light blue paper and aluminium foil, 2023, 18.2 x 13.8 cm; illustrations: 12 cm x 17 cm

Conjuring elements from the subconscious realm, 噓 husk was created to be an echo of my psyche. With no solid destination, the process is alchemical as I experiment with paper, scent and texture. And what that was born is pure delight, possessing a tranquil quietness and an ethereal quality that is hard to describe.

bound

Prints ironed with white candle wax, 2024, 21 cm x 29.7 cm

綁 bound was created during a time of hopelessness and despair. Depicting a handcuffed angel with a neutral expression, some said it appears less like an illustration but more like a curse drawn on paper.
