ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Ip Sze Yiu

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Kobi Ip is a Hong Kong Artist who currently focuses on ceramic making and illustration. Growing up, she developed great interest in drawing and handicrafts. After completing her higher diploma in Visual Communication in HKDI, with all these experiences she got in 2D design, she decided to explore more in 3D crafts, which led to the start of her ceramic making in HKBU Visual Arts. Where she sparks her interest in slip-casting and glazing. Her works usually start from her “useless observations” and embracing the fun she found in them, she often likes to express them through clay because of the variety of textures and flexibility. Even though she likes to mimic the textures of objects with clay, her works were never intended to achieve hyper-realism, but instead went for a chaotic surrealistic approach, sitting on the border of real and unreal.

“When you crave for something, that thing you desire is the only thing you can see.”

"However, I often came across those that I shouldn't, couldn't crave for."

It all started from my “addiction” towards desserts, I craved for themit so much that I started to see the illusion of random objects as delicious desserts. Through this set of work, I turned my imagination into reality through ceramic making, playing around with colours and textures. Inviting the audience to be my guest, seeing the world through my imagination.
