藝術家簡介
Ku Sum Yui Yobie, is born and raised in Hong Kong. She is interested in exploring the world through traditional Chinese art, mainly Chinese calligraphy and seal engraving. Her works are personal. She looks into herself and expresses how she sees the world from her perspective. Her previous works recorded part of the journey of her trying to find out who she is and her position in society.
Ku is also keen on Hanfu culture and Chinese traditional crafts such as making threaded flowers (Chanhua 纏花) and velvet flowers (Ronghua 絨花). She had joined the 1st and 2nd Arts Ambassadors Bazaar organized by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to teach primary school and secondary school students to create Chinese-style accessories by using the technique of making threaded flowers.

過往作品
The poem Memories of Luofu Mountain was composed by my ancestor Gu Chengzhi. He wrote the poem to remember his family and hometown by describing his life living in Luofu mountain in Guangzhou when he was young after the death of his parents. It reminds me of my family, along with childhood memories of hiking and playing with them in the mountains during holidays. It also acts as a warning that I should spend more time with my family members rather than over-focusing on my own life as they are getting older and will probably leave earlier than me in the future.
Inspired by the wall decoration on the platforms of stations along the east rail line, I create a series of useful and decorative flower hairpins using Chinese traditional technique of “Chanhua” to record the childhood memories of traveling through the railway with my mother.
Elements of Chinese art and Western art are combined in this work. Using oil paint as a medium, I painted the art supplies I use for Chinese painting. The unity of colours and shapes of the objects creates a sense of stability. The negative space around the objects is similar to the blank space in Chinese painting.
