Lam Ka Yan is from Hong Kong. Her work stems from close observation of the everyday traces that are overlooked, emotions that are intangible yet indispensable, and the tension between weight and lightness. Through ink art, mixed media, and installation, she explores the hidden gravity within mundane details.
Approaching creation from a first-person perspective, she channels her immediate emotions and thoughts into each piece. Her language oscillates between the explicit and the veiled—sometimes laying bare vulnerability, other times allowing it to surface through metaphor and material. For her, the act of making is an inward dialogue, a search for moments of coexistence between opposites: between exposure and concealment.
林嘉茵來自香港。創作源於對日常的凝視——那些被忽略的痕跡,無形卻不可或缺的情感,以及輕重之間的張力。她以水墨創作,混合媒介、及裝置,探討日常細節中藏匿的重量。
她以第一身感受當下的情緒與思考,將其投射於創作之中。語言時而直白,時而隱晦;有時坦露脆弱,有時讓它在隱喻與物質之間悄然浮現。創作之於她,是一場向內的對話,坦露與藏匿之間,對立之間尋找共存的片刻。

This body of work is a narrative of over twenty years of domestic life.
It is a coexistence of intention and contingency-an evolving space quietly cultivated over time, growing impossible to ignore.
Within these frames, the everyday is no longer a monotonous cycle, but a unique and intriguing ritual of observation. Through subtle lines and cherished symbols, I transform that once heavy-yet-weightless silence into a sanctuary for reconciling past doubts. These works carry signals of parting and release, bridging old bitterness with present, gentle empathy.
Here, within the grain of the mundane, I have learned to reside in, and understand, my own story.

這組作品是關於我家居生活的二十多年敘事。這是一場有意與無意的共存,在時間的推移下,成了某種悄然滋長、無法被忽視的空間。
在這些畫面裡,日常不再是單調的循環,而是一場獨特有趣的觀察儀式。透過細微勾勒與那些曾被珍視的符號。
我將過往那份似重若輕的寂靜,轉化為一片與過去疑惑和解的避難所。
這些作品承載著告別與釋懷,嘗試連接著舊日的苦澀與當下溫柔的同理。
在此處,在平庸的肌理之中,我學會安住,並理解自己的故事。

過往作品
My work explores objects in a liminal state between memory and reality, utility and futility, softness and hardness. We are suspended in the narrow gap between childhood and destiny: unable to settle into the past, nor steady ourselves upon a future built from chance.
Through the process of firing ceramic slip, I seek to capture the contradictory yet fused relationship between cotton rope and clay: one material is pliant and ephemeral, the other is rigid and enduring.
Coexisting within a single form, they resemble the intersection of memory and future—always fraught with doubt, drifting between the tangible and the intangible. These works originate from my daily state of seated contemplation, where the chair becomes a vessel for my thoughts, and seemingly ordinary, often overlooked objects reveal a glimmer of poetry and philosophy.
This work is a poetic exploration of the lively and graceful nature of cat: expressed through calligraphy inspired by the styles of Wang Xizhi and Zhi Yunming. The poem captures the essence of a cat’s behavior—its regal lounging in sunlight, curious gaze, and playful movements as it chases insects and birds.
Through these verses, I convey my deep affection and admiration for cats, appreciating their elegance and the joy they bring into our lives. The calligraphy complements the poem’s content, The style of the pen and font change depend on the content of each sentence, just like watching the dynamic and static changes of cats. This work is a heartfelt tribute to the companionship and happiness that cats offer, reflecting my wish to share life with them.
It is akin to a small diary of my daily life, using observations of cats as the main subject to record and express my emotions—gentle, elegant, understated, and a bit of unconventionality.
