Lang Ting
Lang Ting, also known as Lucy, is a talented female artist and Visual Arts undergraduate at Hong Kong Baptist University. Her creative endeavours focus on crafting charming and whimsical illustrations that exude a cute, girly aesthetic. Within her artworks, Lang frequently showcases women as symbols of her aspirations and personal beauty ideals, embodying a dreamy and princess-like vision of beauty. As Lang delves into her university studies, she uncovers the allure of Chinese art, prompting her to venture beyond her comfort zone by blending traditional gongbi art techniques with her signature pink, girly illustrations. She seeks inspiration from modern art, particularly in terms of composition and colour, while maintaining a deep respect for and dedication to upholding the rich traditions of Chinese art.

Inspired by the ancient Qing dynasty portrait painting of the Imperial Empresses, I aimed to capture the essence of the original artwork by incorporating elements with a contemporary twist, such as clothing patterns, jewellery, facial expressions, seating position, and the throne. Transforming this historical depiction into a modern interpretation, I reimagined the princess to embody beauty standards influenced by modern societal ideals, featuring characteristics like fair skin, a slender physique, large eyes, voluminous hair, and a predominant use of the colour pink.
受古代清朝皇后肖像畫的啟發，我致力於捕捉原作品的精髓，並融入當代元素，如服飾圖案、珠寶、面部表情、坐姿和寶座。我把歷史上的皇后重塑為一位現代公主，體現了受現代社會理想影響的美麗標準，具有白皙膚色、苗條身材、大眼睛、豐盈頭髮，並以粉紅色為主調。

In this heartfelt artwork, I reminisce on a precious childhood memory. As a young girl, I had a special relationship with my favourite toy rabbit. We would spend hours together in my "secret base" playroom, which my mother had meticulously prepared for me. It was a safe space where we could let our imaginations run wild. In this scene, we’re enjoying a lovely tea party. We're sat together side by side, filling the air with colours of pink and happiness as we create amazing moments together.

Even though my mother chose to be a simple housewife for our family, when she puts on her favourite cheongsam and stands under the vibrant stage lights, lost in her music and dance, she becomes the epitome of beauty. With a broom in one hand and gloves on the other, she remains the most radiant mother, surpassing anyone in her grace and elegance.
