Leung Ngo Shuen explores the intimate dynamics of a rehearsal where she invites her parents to enjoy a meal she prepared. While her parents have always actively invited her to their carefully prepared meals, symbolising their nurturing connection, she still finds herself preparing to take an active role in bringing their relationship closer.

By documenting the intricate details of these meal rehearsals, she aims to capture the essence of her ambivalence and trepidation about forging a deeper connection with her parents. Through self-directed rehearsals and visual narratives for anticipated future scenarios, she examines the complexities of familial relationships and invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys of closeness and the transformative power of unready moments.

This is a site-specific artwork. It was inspired by the Japanese avant-garde movement. In that era, people yearned for the future very much, so their expectations for the future can be seen in many design inspirations. In this work, I transformed into a person from that period, took pictures of the “new things” I discovered, and posted notices “Discovering future things” on the street corners of modern Japan.

Reflecting on our eating habits through daily observations. Fast food culture makes us eat fast food so quickly that we forget to enjoy the food. This inspired me to create a series of ceramic tableware for fast food. Using a long process, a set of utensils that allows people to eat slowly and savour their food is created.
