ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Sandy Leung is from Hong Kong. Her work examines how objects can act as extensions of human presence. While objects themselves are inanimate, they often carry traces of the people who use them—through touch, duration, and habitual use. These traces allow objects to quietly reflect personal identity, memory, and affection.
By focusing on ordinary objects, Sandy investigates how emotions such as love, attachment, and intimacy can be expressed indirectly. In her work, objects become subtle yet powerful vessels through which human feelings and relationships are revealed. In her past works, she expressed her ideas through Chinese ink painting.

"If anything is injected with emotion, life will flow." This work explores the emotional attachment formed between humans and inanimate objects, particularly soft toys. While these objects are inherently lifeless, they become embedded with personal meaning through prolonged interaction and emotional projection.Through anthropomorphic representation, the soft toy is depicted as if it possesses presence and emotional agency, reflecting the way individuals unconsciously attribute life and feeling to objects.

The work Ambiguity uses private objects and body-related images as a metaphor for emotions. It depicts intimacy and linkage with the use of buttons and underwear, creating a hazy and uncertain atmosphere, responding to the emotional essence of the work.
This series focuses on my cats, deliberately capturing their least ‘flattering' moments – open mouths, distorted faces, and unguarded expressions. Rather than choosing their cutest or most appealing appearances, I dwell on those almost comical, even ‘ugly' ones.
To me, ‘ugliness' is not truly unpleasant, but a state of vulnerability. When all embellishment falls away, what remains is honesty and intimacy. It is within these imperfect moments that I experience the most genuine connection and love.
This work is inspired by The Legend of the White Snake. I have always been drawn to the story's beauty and subtle narration of sorrow. To me, it is not merely a conflict between humans and the spirit, but a legend about love and sacrifice.
In the painting, the White Snake moves through the landscape, belonging to nature while also symbolizing the flow of emotion. Through soft and hazy tones, I create a space between reality and illusion, reflecting the story's gentle yet tragic beauty. For me, the White Snake is not a monster, but a being courageous enough to love.
