The Tale of the Young Lord is a self-composed prose that follows the narrative of a mysterious aristocrat whom Li once encountered online. Written in a "miscellaneous calligraphic style," it comprises three chapters, "Yin-Yang Eyes," "The Bloody Manor," and "The Vulgar." This work is an attempt to practice the philosophical principles of Sun Guoting's essay, "On the Fine Art of Chinese Calligraphy," in which he stated that calligraphy should be "as artless as ancients without losing the spirit of the age, and modern but free from the faults of the time." In adherence to this ideal, the work seeks to connect with contemporary audiences yet maintain archaic qualities by employing a half-literary, half-vernacular styled-text, contemporary settings, Zhong Yao's small regular script, etc.
