ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Cheuk Yan Wong is an artist based in Hong Kong. His practice explores the relationship between memory, emotion, and information. With an early background in design, he developed an interest in visual structure and the organisation of information. His works has gradually shifted towards installation and media-based practices, examining how memory is perceived, preserved, and represented. He focuses on how personal experiences and sensory impressions can be translated into visible forms.
In his recent works, Wong turns his attention to digital communication and data, reflecting on how everyday conversations, voice messages, and images can exist beyond their lack of physical form. Using weaving as a method, he draws inspiration from the encoding logic of the Jacquard loom, translating digital information into colour, texture, and structure.
Through this process, information is re–organised and simplified, resulting in partial loss and transformation. His works invite viewers to reconsider the emotions embedded in everyday communication and how digital fragments may be preserved and understood in new ways.

Using digital conversations with my family members as records, I translate emotions and experiences into a woven language. Drawing from the logic of binary systems and encoding, the work develops a personal method of translation that reorganises messages into black-and-white structures, textures, and gaps. The four woven pieces present different states of digital traces, with one intentionally left unfinished and extending beyond the work into the surrounding space. What remains within everyday digital communication, and what continues to stay partially unread.
