Viann Wong
Viann Wong is a Hong Kong-based printmaking artist with a particular focus on relief and intaglio techniques. Her works explore the themes of self-identity and societal influences, inviting viewers to embark on a journey of reflection and contemplation through storytelling. Alongside her artistic pursuits, she studied and practiced narrative therapy, finding inspiration in the power of storytelling to examine the influence of mainstream societal narratives on individuals. She integrates narrative therapy into her art practice, challenging and deconstructing the grand narratives and inherent frameworks. She weaves together personal experiences, societal constructs, and universal themes, creating series of visual narrative prints.

Mapping Invisible comprises four psychogeography maps, intricately blending repetitive word cloud text and textured constructs. This work shows my direct and indirect encounters with the city, how the environment shaped my self-identity. And through these maps, the series deconstructs my connection to the city, inviting viewers to contemplate the intertwining of place and identity.

Drawing inspiration from healing therapy, the therapeutic journey of concealing and repressing individuals’ inner stress and childhood shadows is showcased to the audience in a 16-page linocut print book, enabling everyone to connect with and experience abstract emotions firsthand, while confronting and resolving their negative emotions.
