I am Faye, a self-taught painter familiar with blocky painting. My journey began with plein air painting, where I explore the cityscape of Hong Kong and experiment with paints and pigments.

In my work, I address various societal themes and personal reflections, often drawing inspiration from my experiences and imagination. My work engages with contemporary issues through the lens of traditional oil paints, showcasing my evolving skills and the creation of chaotic scenery.

The Burning of the Shaw Campus, Night

“The Burning of the Shaw Campus, Night,” an oil painting on canvas, depicts a modern building consumed by flames against a dark blue sky, symbolizing the artist's anger and disappointment with their university. Inspired by conflicts at Hong Kong Baptist University, including disciplinary actions against the student union and suppressed discussions on faculty mergers, the fiery scene reflects the artist's frustration. Bold cadmium yellows and reds capture the blaze, while ultramarine blue and smoky grays convey a tense, chaotic atmosphere, blending raw emotion with social critique.

This Ancient Greek-style sculpture captures conflict and restraint as one figure silences another by covering their mouth, set against a black background. Drawing from the artist's frustration with institutional tensions—echoing a university incident involving a student group and a senior official's confrontational words—this work channels anger and disillusionment through its evocative forms
