Wong Yi Wan, Janice
Wong Yi Wan primarily creates media artwork in an interactive and darkly humorous style. Her multimedia art explores the plasticity of objects in life and alters their details to illustrate the intricate relationship between social issues and our lives. She uses pure music to establish the relationship and communication between man and nature, people and people, or people and objects using words or everyday objects as musical instruments. As well as this, she argues that sometimes issues don’t require a physical explanation but spiritual solace and space. By adding an air of black humour to her work, she satirizes and represents life while also finding and adding elements that make people curious or associate and turn the audience into a part of it.

The words "I love you" are the sweetest in the world. People often use "I love you" to express their love, and it is also the word for sweetness and happiness. What's more, sometimes "I love you" can be worth a thousand words, and some people will die for it. But has it ever occurred to anyone that the words "I love you" may be an excuse for deception and violence? When someone tells you “I beat you because I love you, ” when someone says, “I cheat on you because I love you, ” when someone says, “I rape you because I love you, ” do you still think that "I love you" is sweet and happy? When he raises his hand, when he clenches his fist when he throws his fist down and says, "I love you," do you think he's saying it because he loves you? In this age of love, how much of it is real and how much of it is fake, can you tell the difference? Domestic violence may happen in everyday violence, in the love that disguises itself as it's tender, let's expose them.

Phoebe Man’s work of everyday objects and my own personal job experience inspired my artwork. Under high working hours, the rate of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among Hong Kong citizens has gradually increased. Throughout my entire career, the telephone has played a significant role in communication. However, this snappy dialogue has unknowingly increased Hong Kong citizens’ workload. Afraid to hear the phone ring, we fear listening to the sounds of recordings and we become nervous about the chat box content. Leading to mild mental illnesses, these are common phenomena in my current company and among my friends. But it is a pity that at this stage, the Hong Kong government still does not have comprehensive measures to deal with workplace PTSD, since our citizens need help very much. So, it is time to take the first step to raise awareness of this social issue and improve the current workplace culture in Hong Kong.

If one day we become one with plants, can we empathize with them? Let me take you into their world, let us amplify our senses, let us enter their whole life, and realise that we humans are the source of everything.

For background, I found that many people worship outside the Tin Hau Temple rather than go inside. Therefore, I would like to raise the attention of worship and provide a place for worshipers and people to communicate by designing a small "temple" in front of the Tin Hau Temple. It can gather worshipers and the citizens with eight elements from firecracker which only appears in the Birthday of Tin Hau in Yau Ma Tei.
