ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

藝術家簡介

Wong Yuet Yiu
黃悅瑤

Wong Yuet Yiu is from Hong Kong. She is obsessed with capturing overlooked daily emotions, interpersonal distance, and the invisible weight of pressure in human relationships. She is also keen on using 3D interactive creations and mixed media to convey her artistic ideas, breaking the one-way viewing experience and inviting audiences to co-create diverse meanings with her works.

In her previous practices, she has examined the topic of human connection and vulnerability through the paintings, plaster sculpture paintings, interactive sensor devices, and mixed-media installations. She explores the duality of vibrant and dark tones, intricate painting details, and tactile 3D textures, treating materials, composition, and thematic ideas as equally important elements in her practice.

As an art educator, she deepens her understanding of human perception, making her works more relatable and emotionally resonant. Between controllability and unpredictability, she continues to explore endless possibilities within serene 3D spaces, aiming to awaken empathy and reflection in her audience.

Centered on personal perception of interpersonal distance, this work focuses on connections with acquaintances and new encounters. It explores the uncertainty of human relationships and the unpredictable future of every bond. The subtle emotions of ambiguity, unease and estrangement are transformed into tangible interactive visuals.

Remnants of a dream

 2025

Acrylic and oil pastel on canvas

60 x 90 cm

Sometimes dreams are like that.

They are unrealistic and impractical.

I would like to express that dreams are like fragments of memories, which scenes or events may be blurred, but still echo in your mind, confusing or intriguing you. This is called ‘dream residue'.

Chaos

2025

Acrylic, oil pastel and soft pastels on canvas

90 x100 cm

I think everyone has a different mindset, so the dreams that come out of it will lead to different answers. This is the result of all the dreams I can remember in colour, and the charcoal was used to show how I think dreams and reality are connected. That's what dreams are like – crazy and unrealistic.

“Have nice dreams”

2025

Acrylic, oil pastels, soft pastels and magnetic powder on canvas

150 x 200 cm

I suffer from insomnia, so my dreams are few and far between. I have always heard people talking about how strange and wonderful dreams are. I use colour to show that I really want to dream, to get away from reality and enter the dreamland. However, it is easy to be pulled back to reality, and I use magnetic powder in the picture to express that.
