Janice Yip employs the agency of materials to register subtle shifts, traces, and remnants in domestic scenes. Spanning painting, printmaking, and installation, her practice is marked by a restrained, meditative syntax that brings figuration to the edge of abstraction while preserving clues to reality. Drawing on personal experience, Yip examines the slippage of time and space in everyday life, withholding overt emotion so moments can expand into experiences and relationships that feel universal. Attending to each medium's materiality and malleability, she lets meaning arise through surface, mark, and residue, allowing images to hover between presence and absence.
